Davis-Bahcall Scholars Program sends undergraduate students on a global exploration of modern scientific research

This summer, eight Davis-Bahcall Scholars will spend four weeks exploring the world of modern scientific research at cutting-edge laboratories and universities around the globe.

The students begin their experience in early June, spending time at Sanford Lab, where they work with scientists and engineers. Then, the group will visit Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago and other labs across the Midwest. The final week is spent in Italy, where students visit Gran Sasso National Laboratory.

“This program is a truly unique opportunity for students to experience underground science both in the U.S. and abroad,” said Mike Headley, executive director of Sanford Underground Research Facility (Sanford Lab). “The students will see world-class science first hand and work side-by-side with the scientists performing it.”

The Davis-Bahcall Scholars Program is sponsored by First Premier Bank, the South Dakota Space Grant Consortium (SDSGC), Black Hills State University and Sanford Lab. The SDSCG has sponsored the Davis-Bahcall program for several years as part of its mission to instill the spirit of exploration and discovery in students, educators and in the general public.
