Johnson named Ross Shaft foreman
Mike Johnson worked as an infrastructure technician for two years, now takes over as Foreman for the Ross Shaft.
For more than six years, Mike Johnson worked as a driller supervisor in the oil fields in North Dakota. Almost two years ago, he was asked to accept a position overseas, which would mean leaving his family behind, which he didn’t want to do.
About that time, an infrastructure technician position opened at Sanford Lab.
“I saw it as an exciting opportunity and applied for the job,” Johnson said.
The job got even more exciting when Johnson recently was selected to take over the role of Ross Shaft Foreman.
“When the job opened, I thought maybe some of my experience and ideas could benefit the project,” he said. “I’ve got things to learn but, so far, everyone’s been great.”
“Mike has a lot of management experience from the oil industry,” said Bryce Pietzyk, Engineering Director. “The rigs that Mike managed were recognized for outstanding safety performance, which is a testament to his focus on safety.”
As the Ross Shaft nears completion, Pietzyk highlighted some upcoming milestones: completing the 4850 Level Station and the 5000 Level. “We’re excited about completing the project. And I have great confidence in Mike’s leadership.”
Johnson is looking forward to completing the project. “The crews are working great together to get this project done.”
