Neutrino Day goes virtual
Sanford Lab will host its first-ever virtual Neutrino Day the week of Monday, July 6, through Saturday, July 11
For the past 11 years, the Sanford Underground Research Facility has hosted Neutrino Day, our annual free science festival. And we plan to do that again this year—with one BIG change. We’re going virtual. Sanford Lab made the decision because of the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. We don’t quite know what that will look like, but we do know this: it will be unique.
Neutrino Day: A Matter Mystery will take place the week of Monday, July 6, through Saturday, July 11. The all-week event will feature online chats with scientists, hands-on activities, games, art activities and scavenger hunts. Additionally, science comedian Brian Malow will make appearances throughout the day, interviewing scientists about some really cool matter mysteries. We’ll introduce you to him soon.
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll finalize our plans and delivery formats, create a schedule of events and links, and tell you how you can participate in this year’s virtual Neutrino Day. We are also brainstorming ways to spread the Neutrino Day fun throughout the week leading up to Neutrino Day, so you might want to highlight the entire week on your calendar.
Although Neutrino Day will look and feel quite different this year, it also creates new opportunities to spread enthusiasm for science, and we look forward to seeing you all at the many different events.
Stay tuned!
