Guidelines for photographer participation in the Sanford Lab photowalk
Guidelines for participating photographers
- You must be 18 years of age and have a valid photo ID to participate in the Sanford Lab Photowalk.
- Employees, contractors and researchers of the lab and their families, are not eligible for the 2018 Photowalk.
- Only photographers who have been invited and have confirmed registration their will be able to participate in the Sanford Lab Photowalk.
- Participants will be responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses.
- You must wear closed-toed shoes (tennis shoes or hiking shoes). Hard-toed safety shoes will be required in many areas. Sanford Lab will issue hard-toe boots to those who do not have their own.
- You will be issued personal protective equipment (PPE): a hardhat, safety glasses, hard-toed boots, a self-rescuer and a cap lamp. Failure to wear PPE or improper use of PPE will not be tolerated.
- You must be able to walk over rough, uneven terrain over a long period of time.
- When you arrive at Sanford Lab, you must undergo safety training and sign release forms if you wish to participate in the Photowalk.
- The day will begin with a safety briefing at 6:30 a.m. If you are not present for the safety briefing, you WILL NOT be allowed to participate in the Photowalk.
- During the Photowalk, you must adhere to all Sanford Lab safety rules and follow the instructions given to you by Photowalk guides and Sanford Lab staff.
- No eating and drinking in the technical areas. Water is available.
- No smoking anywhere on Sanford Lab property.
- Stay with your assigned Photowalk group and guide at all times.
- Stay within the assigned areas set aside for the Photowalk. No wandering off. No opening of doors without authorization.
- No standing above floor surface. No use of ladders will be allowed, and no standing on chairs, tables or camera cases. Climbing on Sanford Lab or experiment equipment or apparatus is prohibited and will not be tolerated.
- If you do not follow procedures, you may be removed from the Photowalk.
- Look around, walk around and take pictures, but do not touch any equipment or objects. Rearranging or moving items at the Photowalk locations is not allowed. No opening of cabinets, drawers, etc.
- Large rolling cases for photo equipment will not be allowed. Each photographer participating in the Photowalk must be able to carry all of their own photo equipment and carry in one trip. You may not bring or use an assistant.
- If you require extra assistance to participate in the Sanford Lab Photowalk, please let us know in advance.
- Photographers will not be allowed to plug in any electrical devices during the walk. Make sure you have enough charged batteries to last you for the entire event. The use of long cords (flash cords, sync cables, camera releases, etc.) that could be a tripping hazard will not be allowed.
- The use of tripods will be allowed; however, foam grips and soft straps may not be allowed in clean areas.
- Be courteous to your fellow photographers, lab staff and researchers.
