Public LBNE meetings this week
A final reminder, there will be two public meetings this week that will explain to local communities the upcoming environmental assessment for the Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE). The meetings will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Days Inn in Lead and on Wednesday at the Ramkota Convention Center in Rapid City. (See the calendar at www.sanfordlab.org for details.)
Although the focus of the meetings will be the environmental assessment, they also will be great opportunities for anyone?members of our staff or the general public?to learn more about the future of research at the Sanford Lab. LBNE Project Director Jim Strait will talk about the experiment itself, which could play a major role in the long-term future of the Sanford Lab. Rod Walton of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory will speak briefly about the environmental assessment process set out by the National Environmental Policy act, or NEPA.
The meetings will start at 6:30 p.m., and the presentations, each about 15 minutes, will start about 6:45 p.m. The rest of the meeting will be informal conversations around 16 posters that will describe the project, both here and at Fermilab.
We look forward to seeing staff and friends alike.
