The SDSTA loses a board member
LEAD, S.D. -- The Sanford Underground Laboratory family is sad to report the death of Dave Bozied, a long-time member of the South Dakota Science and Technology Board of Directors. He died Wednesday, Oct. 7, at his home in Sioux Falls, S.D., after a battle with esophageal cancer.
Gov. Mike Rounds appointed Bozied to the newly created SDSTA Board in 2004, and Bozied had served as chairman until earlier this year.
After his first round of chemotherapy last spring, Bozied vowed he’d stand on a dry 4850 Level. He kept that promise, attending the dedication 4850 Level dedication ceremony on June 22.
“Dave’s contribution to the Sanford Lab was huge,” Executive Director Ron Wheeler said. Operations Safety Officer Tom Regan put it this way: “Dave was a part of this project almost before it WAS a project.”
Bozied was a prominent South Dakota businessman. He was president of Stan Houston Equipment Company, past president of B & B Concrete of Brookings and Flandreau and past president of Consolidated Ready Mix of Aberdeen, Sisseton, Redfield, Webster and Watertown. He also served the community on a number of boards.
In addition, he served 30 years as a member of the Brookings Volunteer Fire Department; a member of the Board of Economic Development of the South Dakota Governors Office of Economic Development and chairman of the South Dakota State Cement Plant Commission.
