Stairs going up, dog ropes going down
On the 4850 Level (photo above), the stairway has been installed from the bottom of the Davis Cavern to the second floor, where the control room and clean room for the LUX dark-matter detector will be installed.
On the surface, at the top of the Yates Shaft, technicians today are lowering one of two 5,200-foot dog ropes that will anchor the new safety system in the Yates Shaft. In the photo at top right, infrastructure technicians Bill Heisinger (kneeling) and Trevor Ray attached a ?cheese weight? to the end of the steel-wire rope to stabilize it.
